Leap Day = Bonus Day

Happy Leap Day!  Although, we didn't leap anything, so shouldn't it be called something else? Technically shouldn't midnight on 2/28-3/1 during "regular" years be the only time we wish everyone a Happy Leap Day, because we're about to leap a day into the future?  Is this an episode of "Deep Thoughts with Jack Handy"?

I vote that we just call this Bonus Day.  So HAPPY BONUS DAY, 2016 everyone!
Anyhow, moving on...
kind of.

To celebrate BONUS DAY 2016 I have decided to  make this an OG weekend recap!  Part toddler fashion, part real life (who are we kidding, it's all real life) but definitely ALL CUTE.

On Friday, Auntie C allowed OG to accessorize herself with kitchen utensils.  OG now has her favorite fashion accessory: a bowl hat.  I feel like I may be partially to blame for this.  Growing up, my favorite accessory was a bowl hat as well!  Is this the only mommy-trait I have passed down to my beautiful daughter? Well, that and my fine, wavy hair.  All the important things, right? Ha.

OG is wearing:
-Bowl Hat (from Auntie C's Kitchen 2016 Collection)
-Ninja shirt from her pal Ellie
-Fleece "back-up" Pants (because she wet her rainbow striped pants during her nap - oops!)

On Saturday, the potty we ordered from Amazon arrived!  OG is still a bit young for potty training, but she is taking interest in potty time so I figured I'd order one just to get her used to the idea.  Well, she took to it MUCH faster than I anticipated! Now, if only we could get her to remove her diaper and pants prior to squatting and taking a load out off...

OG is wearing:
-Diaper & Pants (eh, she'll figure it out)
-Batman onesie

Concentrating...

Don't mind our creeper dog Franklin lurking behind OG.  He's just waiting for crumbs.

On Sunday we had game night at the P's house! OG was stuck with us lame adults most of the time, but found ways to have fun.  She met a new set of vroom-vrooms (cars) to play with and was very apt at pick-pocketing phones and water bottles from the adults. Just like momma's D&D character - so fitting! She may have a future as a Drow after all.

Near bedtime she put on one of my her most favorite PJ sets that's she's slowly outgrowing. Sadface. I had to take a picture because one day I  just have to woman-up and make my own.
 #whoworeitbest

OG is snuggly in:
-BEYOND TIRED space PJs from Target

Hmmm, is it really bed time? ...

...nah, I just swiped this sweet iPhone. Old people are suckers.

Enjoy your BONUS DAY!  Make it count! Snuggle your baby/kitty/puppy/grandma/favorite pillow or loved-one. Tell them you love them and how much they mean to you.  Then treat yourself to a Netflix binge or something. :)

Future Genius, Pull Up Your Pants!

They say the messier the desk, the more intelligent the person. Would "they" also then agree that a future genius' diap SHOULD be handing out of their pants?  I think so...

It makes sense, right?

I swear I'm not biased...

(maybe a little)

OG is rocking:
-Future Genius shirt (Once Upon a Buy it Again Baby)
-Pink cardigan (hand-me-down)
-White leopard print sweater pants (not sweatpants...but like knit sweater pants. Yarn pants? "Yants?")
-Yet-to-be-named-fashion-trend that requires-1/2-of-your-diaper-to-be-hiked-above-your-pants. It's so hot right now...
-Grandma's winter hat (for that distinct hipster vibe/a warm head)
-Jordan's that Dada loved and got for mega cheap at Once Upon a Child - you can see them in the bottom left, not being used
-Dada, OG's favorite "toy" of the moment. <3

I mean, what kind of mom would let their kid out of the house like that?!?
Answer: this kind. :)

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

Today is Grandma's birthday! In her honor, please enjoy some of OG & Grandma's fashions from the "early days":

OG brings some disco-tech/glow worm flair to her hospital stay in this lovely number; Grandma is wearing a complimentary berry-colored long sleeved T with a delicate silver headband.

*No, that is not a radio-active umbilical cord
*Cameo appearance by my right arm (tattoo by Brenda Flatmo)

Her future is so bright, she's gotta wear shades.
First Christmas (2014) outfit from Grandma:
-First Christmas onesie
-Red pants with attached tu-tu
-Santa rattle socks
-Obsessive stare brought to you by the Christmas Tree.  LIIIIIGHTS!

In short, Grandma is amazing.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRANDMA!!!!! XOXOXOX
*As you may have noticed, Grandma isn't a fan of having her picture taken but hopefully we will have more to share next year!

Feeling Your Look (even if your Momma thinks it's "meh")

Hmm, who wouldda' thunk it! Even though little OG's outfit from yesterday was not one that I particularly envy, it is obviously one that she loved to wear. Check out this little confident ladybaby! Girl wasWORKING IT at Ms. J's yesterday!

Her smile is the best compliment to ANY outfit.
My sassafras OG is wearing:
-Cute hand-me-down striped hoodie
-Thermal shirt printed w/ multi-colored bows (Once Upon a Child aka: Play-It-Again-Baby)
-Flannel stretch jeans (also PIAG)
- R2D2/C3PO socks (covered by shoes) from the illustrious $1 Bin at Target

I mean, look at her! Gah, I want to eat her face, but I digress...

Luckily my babysitter loves me and sent the outtake footage as well:

"We call this pose 'The Sneeze'" - Ms. J
L to R: OG, her friend Stella

So, moral of this story?  Even if you're momma isn't necessarily a huge fan of your outfit, but you feel good wearing it, that's all that matters! GO ON WITH YOUR BAD SELF, MA'AM!
And hello Stella!

Throwback Thursday - #1

I'm scrolling through a bunch of old (time is relative) pictures of OG and found a ton of cute things I would like to share on this blog. Therefore, here comes my very first TBT: OG Style!

Oh, you know she's going to love me for this when she becomes a teenager...bwahahaha.

This little number was part of a space-themed newborn onesie pack that I loved (thanks Aunty C!)
-Green is my favorite color, so it already had top marks in my book!
-Space themed (like OG's room - and my heart!)
-All about the Mommy love (sorry, Dada)
-The "frog squat" was just an added bonus when I took the picture, but HOW STINKING CUTE?!?!

I think it really adds an element of comfort to the whole look, don't you?
OVER THE MOON FOR MOMMY?  That's right!

2014-2014 (the onesie, not OG)
Honorable Mention: This onesie may seem like your typical run-of-the-mill-multi-pack-hand-me-down, but it holds a special place in our hearts.  First, it reads "I love Mommy" so you know I was a fan...but also...OG had her first emergency style blow-out in this little outfit. Oh yes, THAT kind.  Our first ever. Moments after I took this picture (can you see it in her eyes?). We actually ended up cutting the poor onesie from her poo covered lower half because, well...
there was no other option.

May you Rest In Pieces, little onesie.  Thanks for taking one for the team.
Never forget.

Time Capsule: Welcome, New Barbie!

I know this has nothing to do with my ladybaby's outfit of the day, but I am just thrilled that Mattel has FINALLY opted to give Barbara Millicent Roberts (aka: Barbie) a much needed makeover.  This post will be used as a sort of time capsule... I hope OG can look back on this post and think "Weird...all Barbie's used to be the same shape/size and have the same hair and perma-arched feet?"

I found a few fun videos that capture reactions to the NEW & IMPROVED Barbie!

Kids react to New Barbie:
"This one actually has some muscle"  <3

Adults react to New Barbie (language can be "adult" at times, FYI):

Old Ladies, Robots, Dinosaurs, OH MY!

Behold. This is the outfit that finally made me think "Damn, I need to start a blog for OG's cute outfits."

#outfitenvy
#wardrobegoals
#stylemuse

I also realize I need to start taking pictures of the outfit BEFORE I dress Ms. OG.  She likes to dance/run/hide from the camera too much for me to ever get a clear picture.

Today:
-Light Pink Onesie with a screen printed Robot riding a Triceratops (from Ms. Julie)
-Navy Blue Cardigan (taking a page from momma's style guide)
-Old-Lady-Style Floral Print Leggins (from Grandma)
-Fuchsia Faux-Suede Hightop Moccasins.

Cameo by: Lucy's butt.  Happy 9th birthday, Lucy Pooch!

OG & Me - The First Post!

I'm a first-time mom who realized (a bit later than most) that half of the fun and anticipation of this new little life-force is based in buying her (or him) clothes that are COMPLETELY RAD. I mean, what the heck. More often than not I find myself exclaiming "Why isn't this available in adult sizes?"

My fashion back-story: As a child I was a tomboy growing up in the Midwest, and my parents were always reminding my older, fashion-savvy sister that we lived in "the lean years" (code for: no extra money for frivolities such as GUESS? jeans). I had no problem with hand-me-downs and always dressed for comfort. This was aided in part by the fact that I always felt "pudgy" compared to most kids my age.  Looking back, I was taller for sure, and had a larger stature than most girls my age, yes...but I was not fat, pudgy, fluffy..whatever term was used at that point.  I looked like a normal kid. Still, I found myself drawn to the idea of picking out clothes that would express the creativity I felt on the inside instead of just wearing comfy things that helped me blend in.

A wallflower can dream, right?

As I entered 7th grade I encountered the first fashion trend I could really get behind: Grunge. I lived in cords, thrift store T's and flannel shirts.  At first, my best friend and I were the only people dressing this way so we got a lot of the "dirty" "druggy" "homeless" comments early on.  I was being noticed for the first time and it was terrifying.  However, I felt like I belonged in this trend not just because it was affordable and comfortable, but I finally felt like "me". I was also an early fan of the grunge era of music, so I found it comforting to look like my idols/crushes/like-minded folks. From that point on, I dressed for me.  I never really followed a specific trend - I just wore what I liked.  Usually it was a mix of grunge with a sprinkle of punk rock built upon a solid foundation of 1940's men's fashions. Yep. (I would insert a picture here, but that was - in my best "old grandma" voice - back before these fancy picturephones and internet clouds and the whatnot.)

Now that I'm a "responsible adult" with a "real job", my daily uniform of choice is a maxi dress with a cardigan and boots or flats. It's work appropriate yet comfy, and EASY (since now I have a toddler to snuggle, feed, and get packed for the babysitter in the morning before work). Priorities. :) All I have to do is find a glorified mumu maxi dress, a corresponding cardigan and GO.

Getting back to my daughter: My husband and I agreed early on to disregard the girl clothes/boy clothes suggestions for our daughter, Ms. O.G. - and it makes our options that much more fun! Don't get me wrong, her closet still looks like an explosion at the cotton candy factory, but we try to mix it up with other fun pieces. Plus, like any good parent, we like to push our love of comic books, dinosaurs, robots, art, space, etc. on her in any way possible. Fashion is not exempt! In short, I have turned my love of unique and interesting clothing/shoes (even socks!) into a mission to find things that express Ms. OG's personality in a fun way.  As soon as she is old enough to pick out her own outfits, it's ON.  In the meantime, my husband and I will help her pick out clothes in the hopes that she can also find comfort in dressing for who she is and who she will become.

I guess the bottom line is that the idea of "fashion" (especially toddler fashion) may seem shallow, vapid even -  because we are MUCH more than our outward appearance. However, the way clothing can make you feel about yourself is very significant. I hope OG looks back on this and feels empowered by all of these silly, seemingly trivial posts. <3
...
After typing ALL of that, I realized all I really needed to say is "Hey...look!  A cute ladybaby!". Adorable kid pics really just sell themselves. Oh well!

And couldn't you just eat her face?  I digress...
